FOOD 101: BREAKOUT EDITION

No matter how consistent or strict you are with your 6-step skincare routine, breakouts are inevitable. Factors such as hormones, changes in the weather, routine and skincare products can cause breakouts.

Foods we eat play a major part in our skincare, ultimately food is our medicine. Certain foods are the key ingredient to perfect skin and others are the culprit to those bad skin days.

When experiencing a breakout - especially around that time of the month, it is best to avoid the inflammatory foods that can worsen your PMS skin. Foods that are high in sugar, red and processed meats, pasta, sugary cereal and fried foods are only going to make your breakout skin worse.

You want all the goodness you can get into your body to help during those times of breakouts. Foods that are rich in antioxidants are going to be your best friend. Also known as ‘the king’ of antioxidant foods, blueberries, are the perfect choice. Lots of super veg is essential in your diet, but especially during a time of a breakout. Lots of leafy greens; spinach, kale, broccoli as well as carrots and avocado are the ones you want to be reaching for.

Most importantly, water and lots of it! Flush your system and hydrate from the inside out. When you’re dehydrated, it’s not only bad for your body, but it affects your skin too. No matter how many miracle products you apply, if you’re not drinking enough water, it can make your skin appear dry, dull, flat and lifeless – all of the things we don’t want.

So be sure to stay on top of your gut health, good skincare always starts from the inside out
